Time for a Cat Story
I live in Midtown Mobile, Alabama in a 1600sf house with 2 dogs and 3 cats. This is a story about the newest addition to our little zoo. His name is Tiny Dancer and he is a delight!

Ironically the Pandemic May Have Save Us
Ironically enough the pandemic may have saved us from Donald Trump serving an eight year term. There is a reasonable case to be made that with the economy doing well in 2019, the support of his huge base at the time and Biden running against him, Trump could have pulled it off.

The Cuban Missile Crisis was a scary time for everyone in America in 1962. I was 12 at the time and remember being glued to the TV every night as the drama unfolded and the fear of a nuclear war escalated until at the last minute an agreement was made between Russia and the US to avoid WW3.

The Dark Side of "That Doggie in the Window"
“I have no name, I have no real home, I have no one who loves me. I live in constant fear, I am always hungry and thirsty. I have no concept of time, so the days, weeks and months pass and I am alone. I am cold on some days and nights and hot on others. When I have to pee or poop, I go to a corner and do my business. It falls through the wire into a tray below, but no one comes to clean it very often, so it smells horrible and the flies come in droves and torment me. My feet are cut from standing and walking on the wire and one is infected. Some of my teeth are rotting out and the pain is terrible. Insects crawl on my body and bite me. One of my ears is infected and the pain fights with the pain in my mouth. It seems my life is just filled with pain all the time. I can watch the sun rise and set but never go out and enjoy the sunshine. When it rains it feels good at first but soon the wind picks up and I am soaked, huddled in a corner trying to stay dry. My belly is swollen, not from the hunger that is always present, but from the tiny lives that are forming there.”

Why Are States Blaming Stimulus and Unemployment for Lack of Workers?
Once again I heard the same refrain repeated on right wing media this week. The real reason that businesses cannot find workers is because Biden is giving them stimulus money and unemployment cash to just stay home and not come to work. The old trope that continues to play out is that poor people are lazy and if you give them any kind of safety net they will not work and just stay home.

Current Bank Ripped Off My Daughter's Savings
My daughter is 18 and has started college. She is a wonderful girl and always tries to do the right thing. So when she came to me in January I was not expecting what happened next. She held her phone up so I could see the balance in her Current Bank Teen Savings Account. She was supposed to have $650 in her account but the balance shows $250. As we both looked at the screen the total changed to $0. At the bottom of the screen, we saw that someone in Miami FL had apparently used her account to make two purchases in a Walgreens store and wipe out her account in a matter of seconds.

I was Booed Off Stage at a Black Comedy Club
I am 70 years old and have been doing stand-up comedy at open mic nights for over 30 years. I worked for an international software company based in Holland and traveled the world. It was a great opportunity to travel to many US cities and I attended an open mic night every chance I got, especially bigger cities like San Francisco, Chicago, St Louis, and many others. I usually had no problem embarrassing myself on purpose as my comedy centers around my size. At 6’6, 375 you can bet that I get noticed when I come on stage. I have a standard set that is timed perfectly at 5 minutes so that comedy club managers know that I will not abuse my time slot.

The following story took place when I was 10 years old living in Frankfort Ky. This event is lost in history except for a few family members and a small article that appeared in the Frankfort State Journal on January 7th, 1960.

I was an Introvert until I did this...
Yes, it’s true, I was very introverted growing up in Kentucky in an upper-middle-class family in the 50s and 60s, saddled with low self-esteem. Add to that multiple doses of wearing glasses, being overweight, very tall, and a home life that was a struggle. I was introverted and when given the choice I preferred to be alone with a book or music or walking the farm fields with my Beagle hound. I made good grades and did not get into much trouble so I kind of blended into the background in most social situations. I really didn’t excel at anything and did not have any special skills to pave the way for positive social interactions. I was not an athlete, did not play the guitar, have a cool car, date any girls, had no real best friends, so for all intents and purposes my life was just plodding along with no real direction. I was just invisible.

Fishing with my Dad
The boy watched the red and white bobber move slowly with the current on the small lake. It was just after sunrise on a beautiful spring morning. There was a slight breeze with only some puffy clouds in the sky and the water was a crystal blue with tiny waves that beat a comforting rhythm against the shore. He was excited to be fishing with the father, knowing that this was a special time that would not last long, but relished and remembered for what it was…a break from the bad times at home.

Gettin' in Trouble at the Stateline Motel, Gas Station, Dance Hall and Bar
The first gas station and motel that Daddy Fox owned was called the Stateline Motel outside of Guthrie, Kentucky. It was a quick drive south on state highway 79 almost to the Tennessee line. Growing up in the late 50s and early 60s I had been to the Stateline Motel many times and I stayed with Daddy Fox and Miz Burchett in a small house next to the station. There was a small 8 room motel on the property but it never seemed to do much business so I didn’t pay much attention. I was much more interested in the gas station and all its delights, especially food and pinball!

The year was 1964. One of my favorite activities during the summers working for my grangfather was spending time with Daddy Fox. I was fairly tall at 14, but Daddy Fox at 6' 4" still towered over me. He had broad shoulders and strong arms from years of working on the railroad.
