John Jay Falls 17-10 to Mahopac
On Tuesday April 23, John Jay celebrated their Passover day off on the baseball diamond, but did not get an even playing field versus visiting Mahopac. The continuation of last week’s game, the Wolves already trailed 6-0, and the deficit made the matchup an uphill climb all afternoon.

John Jay Wins Senior Night with 6-2 Victory over Pelham
Senior Night Photos On Wednesday April 24, John Jay hosted Pelham for senior night, and the rain and overcast weather passing by returned the just right front for Emma Klares. “It was nice that the sun came out,” said the senior. “We put the posters out, and it felt like senior night.” Holding up her end in the circle, the starter was still happy to share the spotlight with the kids in the 6-2 victory.

Somers Softball Falls 7-3 to Ardsley
On Tuesday April 16, Somers faced Ardsley, and despite the 7-3 score, the Tusker home game showcased two very good pitching performances. Unfortunately, three unearned runs in the third inflated the pitching line, and Somers was on the short end.

John Jay Goes to 7-2 with Win Over Byram Hills
On Friday April 19 John Jay traveled to Byram Hills and started early by getting their first three batters on. Unable to score, Coach Ted Lawrence didn’t get ahead of himself. “It was still early,” he reasoned, but foresight would end up playing a big part in the final outcome.

Somers 18-13 Loss Still Yields Some Magic
On Thursday April 18, the flag football team held off the overcast weather of another ugly spring day, and in hoping to do the same to the visiting Huguenots of New Rochelle, Rebecca Lippolis definitely saw the sun peak through. “We are coming together as a team, working hard, and I’d say that being together makes everything come together,” the junior assured. But the synergy didn’t quite get the Tuskers over the top.

John Jay Falls to Carmel

Slideshow On Monday April 15, John Jay flag football traveled to Carmel High School, and it didn’t take long for the more experienced program to reveal itself. After the Wolves went out after three quick plays, Carmel ran three of their own and ended up in the end zone. The Rams didn’t let up either and scored the next 33 consecutive points in the 40-13 victory. But in their first season at this sport, Coach Joe Candarelli believes his girls are still on point.

John Jay Lacrosse Improves to 6-0
On Thursday April 11, John Jay looked to continue their undefeated season versus Bronxville, and a 6-1 in the third had the Wolves on track. But two quick goals by the Broncos did raise a little doubt. So John Jay simply resumed the regular discourse that has gotten them to 5-0.

Somers Drives Home 16-6 Victory Over Mahopac
On Friday April 12, Somers met Mahopac at home and scored twice in the first two minutes. But the early offensive outburst was not the most foretelling aspect of the 16-6 Somers victory. "Our riding was awesome today,” said Ryan Brush, and the overdrive went into gear right away.

Pitcher’s Dual Puts John Jay on the Downside
On Wednesday April 10, John Jay and Hen Hud got a good day for some softball, and the starters definitely matched the weather. Through five, Emma Barbelet and Riley Foote mastered the opposing lineups to a 1-0 pitcher’s duel. They didn’t let up the rest of the way either. But the sun had to go down, and so did a final stat line that left one on the losing end.

John Jay Tennis Shows Enthusiasm in Loss to Horace Greeley
Video On Tuesday April 9, John Jay took on Horace Greeley at home and hoped to up their record to 2-0. Unfortunately, the Wolves ran into a tough group of Quakers and lost six of seven matches. But Coach Paul Crivelli still enjoyed the day and had high praise for his boys.

Somers Track Laces Up Versus Hen Hud
Please see tip, pledge and subscribe options below Pole Vaulting At Brewster On Monday April 8, with the moon crossing the sun, Somers kept their heads down and laced up for a dual meet versus Hen Hud. Several multiple winners for the Tuskers, Haylie Donovan might have hit the trifecta, but the timing just wasn’t right. “My main race is the 400. I felt a little sick before, so I couldn’t run it,” she lamented, but the unsettling didn’t derail the rest of her day.
