Elliott & Ricky: A Journey To Friendship
“What are you looking at?” Elliott asked irately. “Not yo big head!” Ricky responded sarcastically. It was no secret that fourth graders Elliott Alston and Ricky Pratt did not get along. Today their class is going on a field trip to the pumpkin patch. Their teacher Kelly Medina decided that putting them together as partners on the trip might be the key to resolving their issues. Their mothers Ruby Alston and Maggie Pratt would also be joining them.

Orlando and Beyond
What happens when your best friends invite you on a trip to see a place that you’ve dreamed of visiting your whole life? A chance of a lifetime. For me that chance came in the form of going to Orlando, Florida and seeing Universal Studios up close and personal in spring of 2022.

I’ll Give You A Pass
Friday, October 31st, 2003. I’m in my 5th grade chorus class at Glenwood Elementary around 9am in the morning. Now me being me I was definitely getting on my music teacher’s last nerve, like I always did around that time. So in a routine fashion she sent me to the corner of the room to what you basically could say was a timeout. At some point during this timeout I found myself falling fatigue as my classmates were singing and playing instruments. It’s not uncommon for a kid to fall asleep in class, especially when they are as lazy as me, but it is a bit alarming when the kid isn’t waking up when the adult are desperate trying to wake him.

Mother Memories: Reading & Writing
If your mother’s name was Ruby Lee Spencer chances are she loved music, especially Reggae. Her favorite snacks were sunflower seeds, Diet Pepsi and beef jerky, oh yeah and she made you do a lot of things for the sake of your personal growth and development as an individual that you thought were pointless and at the most useless back when you were a kid, but then you grew up and realized that these things she made you practice were responsible for shaping you into the person you were meant to be. For Ruby’s only son, which is me, this came in the form of reading and writing.
