UN Votes 128-9 Against U.S. Embassy's Move to Jerusalem

Does U.S. want UN to be its puppet?

On Thursday's General Assembly (December 21, 2017), the United Nations voted 128 to 9 overwhelmingly condemning Presendent Donald Trump's decision to move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv in Israel to Jerusalem which means recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

This vote was conducted after the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley warned on Tuesday (December 19) that U.S. would "take the names" of UN member states who are against moving U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem.

In this UN voting assembly, 35 countries abstained, including U.S. allies Canada, Australia, Mexico and Argentina. The NINE countries are United States, Israel, Guatemala, Honduras, Togo, Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, Nauru, and Palau.

Below are some of the public reactions to this vote from Yahoo.

"Defund the UN and those who are not our allies. How quickly France has forgotten the WW I and WW II. How quickly Germany has forgotten a divided nation and a wall! PATHETIC!!" — Ed

"The Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 Requires the U.S. to move it’s embassy to Jerusalem. The President is implementing this Law. Congress can change this by repealing the law. Let’s see them do it. Come on, Chuck." — Anonymous

"We don't need the UN anyway. Let it go and put the savings towards rebuilding our country's infrastructure and the wall." — Craig

"Our tax dollars should work for the US not everyone else. Keep the money here where it belongs." — John

"Does this not show that the U.S. buys friends and influences the UN." — Ronnie

Does Jerusalem belong to Israel or Palestine?

"Israelis and Palestinians both claim Jerusalem as their capital, as the State of Israel maintains its primary governmental institutions there while the State of Palestine ultimately foresees the city as its seat of power; however, neither claim is widely recognized internationally." [Wikipedia]

The Palestinians claim the right to Jerusalem based on having been living there over the centuries, while the Israelis claim the right to Jerusalem as it was once the capital of the Israelite Kingdom of Judah around the 8th century BCE to 586 BCE.

So, Jerusalem is a controversial city to Israel and Palestine. Its east belongs to Palestine and its west to Israel. And it's not recognized as Israel's capital internationally. Moreover, no embassy from any country is there since 1980s, though Israel announced Jerusalem as its undivided capital in 1980 and then located all branches of its government in Jerusalem.

This time U.S. Embassy is being proposed to move to Jerusalem in the course of Donald Trump's presidency, U.S. was condemned by the United Nations.

Is it related to U.S.'s financial support to the U.N.?

The United Nations is an international organization with its mission to maintain international peace and security, to protect human rights, to deliver humanitarian aid, to promote sustainable development, and to uphold international law, though the United States of America is undoubtedly the largest contributor to the United Nations, or even though its name "United Nations" was coined by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt and was first used in the Declaration by United Nations of January 1, 1942 during WWII.

Obviously, the UN is impossible to be controlled and must not be manipulated by one or several member states. Contribution to the UN is one thing, operation of the UN is another. That's the point of UN's establishment and existence.

Therefore, the idea of moving U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem should be discreet as it will be under fire when it's open to the public. Warning to "take the names" of UN member states who vote against this idea doesn't work — it's a proven fact, isn't it?
