The Infamous 'They'

Every action has a reaction, which all leads back to 'they'

From the first day when we as human beings decided that we would trust other people to tell us how to live our lives, something changed. A long time ago, people decided that there was a benefit to letting certain people determine what was right and wrong, and it’s been a bit of a mess ever since. While there are certainly things that should be considered right and wrong for all of us, these focuses on what constitutes as good or bad has shifted well beyond what any of us ever imagined.

Worse, now that we are stuck in this cycle and these people continue telling us what to do, we are incapable of disagreeing for risk of breaking some random law. Right now in our country, we have laws, for laws, for laws, and most of these “lawmakers” are just making policies that fit the agenda of their biggest campaign financier; sad but true. At this point in time, our votes really don’t count, unless you have a seat in the House of Representatives, which you have to be voted into, and campaigning costs money, which people need to survive. Therefore many people don’t even think about running for office, or they simply cannot afford to. Looking into having your voice heard for a chance to be taken seriously, you most likely have to have donated a pretty hefty chunk of change to whatever organization it is that is going to allow you to speak at their event or assist you in getting your voice heard. The decisions for our lives are being governed by the infamous “they,” and they are not at all interested in what we have to say, want, or need, nor do they care about what’s in our best interests. The simple truth is that the people making these decisions are people, just like you and I. Though, somewhere along the way we all decided that certain people were better at making decisions than others, which made a lot of sense in theory.

Unfortunately, now these people are making it so only people like them end up in these positions, which means the majority of us are not being represented, and these people are spending their entire careers making decisions for us that are influenced by money donated to their campaigns, private libraries, foundations, or organizations they represent that fills their bank accounts. That doesn’t help us or our bank accounts; we the people don’t necessarily want or need them to make decisions for us that clearly are never going to benefit us.

These are the rules "they" decided for us. Photo credit @wordswagg

From a young age, they start to condition us,.When we go to school, they start to tell us what is right and wrong, what to do, and not to do. They tell us what type of grades to get, what class to go to, what to wear or not to wear, to pledge the allegiance, which sports team we are allowed to try out for, which gender can play which sport, for instance. Then throughout life, we are nonchalantly shown who we should and should not place stigma upon. They are giving us scores and telling us who gets to be heard and who needs to be silenced, how to stereotype people and where to place them. It has gotten so painfully stigmatizing that social media platforms have even started banning users that work within the adult industry, and of course being a former adult film star, I always seem to be a target.

Take my Instagram for example; a woman randomly out of the blue threatens my life in the comment section to a post my friend made, I report her, and a few hours later my Instagram is gone without any notice and the woman who threatened my life still has her Instagram. Another great example: A “famous” person like Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus, or Kylie Jenner, can post a photograph of themself naked, completely exposed on their social media streams, get thousands of views, likes, and comments and still not have their streams disabled or removed from the platform. Yet an adult film star who barely even post photographs of themselves on their social streams and keeps it PG rated at all times will lose their social media accounts, thus losing all revenues earned from social media.

The system just isn’t built for us or by us, and it really just isn’t fair at all. Not only is it not fair, it sends a message to society to go right ahead and disapprove of people within that line of work, essentially causing society to discriminate against those people, further suppressing individuals for a job they willingly choose to have and at legal age to do so. Now we have a major social media platform publicly showing their disapproval, flat out discriminating against for these individuals, and now suppressing them into a corner, thus causing a potentially dangerous negative impact on them. That is NOT OK! The laws that govern the rules that govern the laws that we have in place are NOT working. If that hasn’t been obvious, I don’t know what is. It’s not because the majority of us are criminals, breaking the rules and laws created they created, but rather because these laws do not work for everyone.

The laws targeting specific industries, races, etc. are only getting worse with time. I was in that line of work by choice, because I chose it; no one forced me into it, I was more than happy to be doing it, and the race you are born into is not your choice nor should it ever matter. Yet nowadays, there are politicians passing laws because of how they personally feel about one's line of work, and now even a person's race is a topic. The trifecta felt by their actions causes mass disapproval of discrimination or sometimes even violence against a person/people based on the predetermined negative perception of ones social characteristics that are said to distinguish them from other people in society.

With that, “they” are incarcerating a large amount of our population. In fact, the USA has the highest incarceration rate in the world, and the USA only accounts for 4.4% of the world's population with around 320 million people, and about 655 people out of every 100,000 people are incarcerated here in the USA. The system, which allegedly aims to protect us and keep us safe, is only harming us by throwing people in cement rooms with no water, air conditioning, or heat, no medical attention, and so forth; these incarcerated people face these conditions for years upon years. “They” just allow these people to rot away without ever trying to rehabilitate and get to the root of ones incarceration for that person to grow and learn from that negative experience, for society to truly benefit from one's incarceration. Instead, these people eventually are released back into the community like a fish out of water, essentially keeping people in the system right back where they started, repeating and repeating that pattern with no hope in sight. All while “they” continue to earn money off the incarcerations of these people. See, if you look at the bigger picture here, you will see that all this is a reaction of one person's action and it spirals from there; everything can be traced back to the source of “they,” should someone want to give it a try. Facts don’t lie. Eventually something has to give, and this has to stop. This mass profiteering of people needs to be stopped.

So much for the “land of the free.” America’s "land of the free" was a great gimmick. This is possibly one of the biggest scams and crimes possibly ever committed against humanity the people of this world have ever seen, and yet people still choose to see it the way they are told to, not wanting to believe or accept what has happened, been, and still happening today.

There isn’t going to be a miracle that happens overnight and makes everything equal for everyone, but that doesn’t mean that we should give up or stop trying. If we want to see real change, then we need to push for real change. They are not us, and it is time that we start pushing for a world that allows us to speak for ourselves. It might not be easy, and it might not be comfortable, but making sure that the system works for everyone is something that has been long overdue.
