The Case for Elizabeth Warren in 2020

The reason is not what you think.

Senator Elizabeth Warren

The Case for Elizabeth Warren in 2020 is simple. She is not the reason she should be running for President. The reason she is should run is so much deeper than that. She represents a large portion of America that is not interested in “revolution”. She represents a large portion of our nation that already thought, and still thinks America at its core is pretty great. She represents the mother that is putting off picking up her medicine a few more days to ensure her children have lunch money for the rest of the week. She represents that father that is really sick of working that low paying part-time warehouse job, when just a few short years ago he had a job that paid all the bills with enough left over to save. The case for Elizabeth Warren in 2020 is a lot less about her, and a hell of a lot more about the people she keeps fighting for and trying to protect in Congress.

She is a progressive that believes in progress. Unlike many in Washington, she knows that baby steps forward in policy, politics, and practice mean so much more than hollow chants of all or nothing. She believes in our system of government, the rule of law. Elizabeth Warren has the smarts of Hillary Clinton, the passion of a Bernie Sanders, and the confidence of a Barack Obama to ensure that Americans are being treated fairly, and they are getting the best of their own government.

Even though she hasn’t been in Washington D.C. long, she has already made an impact that won’t be forgotten. She was the one that created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, an agency focused on ensuring those very people we were just talking about don’t get screwed over again by greed and by a system that has been “reformed” to support those at the very top. In 2008, she led the Congressional Oversight Panel to ensure that every dollar of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act was being allocated to protect our economy and the people that make it the greatest economy in the world. Elizabeth Warren has always been there to take on the monsters harming middle-class Americans, even when the people didn’t even realize they were there.

She is worried about the conversations at the dinner table, and she worries about making sure that dinner table has food on it for every American: Disabled. Veteran. Child. Single Parent. Elderly, Native American. African American. Asain American. LGBT. Middle-Class Families. Foster Children. She is there, fighting for them. Not for herself. We need a fighter in the White House again worried about them, about all of us.

Lastly, she is just plain smart. She has been a professor of law at the University of Texas, Michigan, Rutgers, and Harvard. We want and need a smart person in the White House. I think it is fair to say some Americans wonder how well logic flows through the halls of the White House today in the Trump Administration. The best things about this is we can fix that. The American people can fix this. We can make the case for Elizabeth Warren to get up there and fight for every single American in 2020. We need someone that gives a damn about all of us, not just themselves.
