Samantha Bee Is Right About Ivanka

During Wednesday’s episode of Full Frontal, Samantha Bee had a message for Ivanka Trump. “Do something! Tearing children away from their parents is so evil, it’s the inciting incident in almost every movie we’ve ever cared about. You know, Ivanka, that’s a beautiful photo of you and your child, but let me just say, one mother to another, do something about your dad’s immigration practices, you feckless cunt!”

The late night host was outraged that US immigration authorities are separating undocumented children and their parents at the border. The administration has been stepping up criminal prosecution of people crossing the border illegally this month. Earlier this week, there was discussion around the administration’s policy of separating immigrant children from their parents are the border. To make matters worse, the administration has lost track of hundreds of children who were separated from their parents and placed in foster care. Also, for you to post a picture of you with your white child while many people have no clue with their kids are is disrespectful. Your father has been out here calling people animals simply because they are undocumented citizens.

Also, we need to stop coddling Ivanka Trump as if she is not a whole grown ass woman. I know that what Bee said was pretty vulgar, but to be honest, Ivanka Trump said from the jump she was going to be a calming voice to her father. She said that she was gonna be out here helping make decisions and now her daddy is out here ruining everyone’s life and no one is holding her accountable. People who know nothing about feminism love to say that all women should support each other no matter what. They were upset when Michelle Wolf made a harmless joke about Sarah Sanders and y'all are upset about this. The same people weren’t mad Michelle Obama and her daughters were repeatedly being called very vulgar things by people online. They weren’t mad when there were people are at Trump rallies wearing T-shirts that called Hillary Clinton a cunt. But if someone dares try to hold a conservative woman accountable, then suddenly we are not a real feminist.

Now, Ivanka Trump is not a good person. Ivanka has this kind of sugary fiber bar feminism in my eyes. Her activism looks good but it is devoid of nutritional value. Sure, Ivanka is a business woman and a mother, but she has stayed silent whenever her father implements policies that hurt mothers and poor women in America.

Ivanka does get credit for getting rid of a proposed executive order in February 2017 that would have rolled back Obama-era LGBT protections under the lie of protecting religious liberty. But ever since then, the same administration has withdrawn federal protections afforded transgender students in schools, worked to have questions about sexual identification and gender identity removed from the census, took off all mention of LGBT rights from the White House website, and signed an executive order undermining an Obama-era ban on federal contractors from discriminating against LGBTQ employees.

Despite having not qualifications or credentials to represent the US on the global stage, Ivanka was also allowed to represent the United States on the global stage as a senior White House official. The only reason why she is a senior official is because of nepotism and the deeply entrenched corruption in the White House. Soon after her father took office, she represented the US in Germany at W-20, a summit of G-20 countries aimed at promoting women’s workforce participation and equality. She spoke on a panel alongside German Chancellor Angela Merkel and was booed by the audience when she tried (and failed) to portray her father as a women’s rights advocate. And it’s not like Ivanka is a better advocate for women’s right. Aside from victory in expanding the child tax credit, Ivanka has not been able to accomplish anything and she is continually promoting her massive portfolio of “women’s issues”. She stayed strangely silent when her father supported a bill that took aim at women’s access to everything from birth control to workplace safety. She backed her father when he ended the Obama-era rule on gender-gap wage data collection, which enabled the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to collect salary data from large companies by race and gender to better understand patterns of pay discrimination.

Moreover, I have not forgotten about her father being a rapist. We are currently in a #MeToo era where we are all working hard to hold men accountable when they are accused of sexually harassing women. This does not exclude the Annoying Orange in Chief. Every day, the media has stories about high profile men in every industry are being accused of sexual harassment and abuse allegations. Ivanka would go on morning show to talk show trying to spin accusations against her father. But now that we are entering a dialogue that will impact women’s rights for years to come, Ivanka now keeps her mouth shut. Her own father has been accused by more than a dozen women of sexual misconduct and was caught on tape bragging about assaulting a woman. As a self-proclaimed women’s “champion,” you should not be out her caping for your disgusting father. Of course, she condemned people supporting Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore, who was accused of pursuing sexual relationships with teenages when he was 30. But that’s so easy. Nobody should have been supporting Roy Moore anyways and her not supporting Roy Moore doesn’t make her a better person, it just makes her someone with a little bit of common sense.

Ivanka’s work on women’s and working families’ issues matched with her support for the Trump administration rolling back progress on equal pay sends mixed signals about her commitment to prioritizing the needs of all women and her ability to craft the policy solutions essential to womens’ progress. She deserves to be held accountable for her actions since she allowed herself to be in a position of power where she has the ear of the President.
