The Unpopular Opinion
Our planet is overpopulated... No one ever argues with me on that statement. If I ask why overpopulation is a problem, someone will usually mention the fact that there are limited resources on the planet and it is becoming harder and harder to provide enough of these resources to allow future generations to live comfortable lives. Others may mention displacement and mass extinction of animals across the globe due to deforestation, expansion of cities and human industrialization. Both are very good points.

WOULD IT BE CLICHE, for me to write a piece about the many black icons, such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, and most recently, Barak Obama, or Kamala Harris? These are some of my hero's, all with struggles and obstacles they had to overcome, but they rose to the challenge. John Louis was beaten for his struggle, while Emmitt Till, Medgar Evers, and MLK, gave the ultimate sacrifice for their dedication to civil rights, or simply the color of their skin. Here's a little secrete, I'm not a big republican fan, but Dr. Ben Carson was the first to successfully separate conjoined twins, and for that I'll overlook that little GOP indiscretion, because he helped transcend the field of medicine, and that is neither red or blue; it's black. I could go on and on with names that highlight black influence, names like Harriet Tudman, James Baldwin, and Web DuBois, but there are to many names to list, and I must chose just one. The answer is no, it wouldn't be cliché because I would be honored to write a brilliant piece about one of these Black Icons, but you get the picture; black men and women, helped shape this country because they led by example - they were and are, the very foundation of e pluribus unum.

Unless you’ve been in a vegetative state during the last few years you understand that this is an intensely charged period in our history. There is an ongoing evolution of awareness unfolding in our society. As the winds of fortune have shifted, so too has the sense of urgency to deal with the formidable and pressing matters at hand. The issues we face are many, but one of the biggest ones is the fomentation of derision and polarization along political, cultural and racial lines. To say that the United States is in a state of crisis is to woefully understate the situation. We are fucked.
Steve McManusPublished 3 years ago in The SwampGoddamned Freeloaders!
American involvement in central and south America goes all the way back to 1795 when George Washington was the President and over the years we consistently and repeatedly sent the U.S. military to enforce the will of the political administration to protect American-owned agricultural and industrial interests throughout Central and South America. We killed lots of people in the Falkland Islands of Argentina, Venezuela, Columbia, Peru, Chile, Uruguay, Honduras, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Mexico. We set up dictators that had our military protection so that companies from the United States could operate there very inexpensively or so that their industry could operate and benefit us strategically. Yeah, Baby. Remember, we’re the good guys.

The turbulence during the first World War coinciding with the rise of the Bolsheviks led to the intrigue surrounding the Last Tsar of Russia. A treasure that vanished just as the storming Bolsheviks seized power and brought down the House of Romanoff. It was 1917 a period of discontent in Moscow. The cries of the populace spurring open revolt in violent overthrow of the ruling class. It was during this time that Nicholas hid his vast fortune hoping to retrieve it and restore his rightful place as ruler of all of Russia. A treasure so vast was lost to history.

Michael J. HarrisPublished 3 years ago in The SwampI Know that I Don’t Know
I haven’t known what to say. I am heavy with the weight of the world, not silent to it. But I know my voice is not the most important one. I believe that harm to any of us, effects each and every one of us. I believe we need to stand up for the ones being harmed. Last night I fell asleep with the words “I can’t understand how the white man never understood how to handle the hue man properly”. And I just keep turning those words over and over “Hue man. Human. Clever, and real”. I don’t sleep at night when my fellow human is suffering, knowing violence and hate are so rampant.
Taylor MichellePublished 3 years ago in The SwampLife Is Hard: Deal With It!
Let the hate comments begin! If there is something about the older generations I envy, it is the determination they possessed. A long time ago, this nation; if not the entire Western World, was comprised of strong people. Back then people had courage, grit, and determination. Sure, life was hard, but the mentality was to press on. Whenever adversity arose, people stood up to the challenge. Such moments of hardship were seen as an opportunity to shine.
