Government Corruption

What's Wrong

The United States government was originally created to protect the citizens of the still growing nation. The Constitution was created in order to regulate what the government was allowed to do and not allowed to do. Today, the United States government is corrupt. The lives of the citizens are constantly being intruded on, and the government is not necessary for the good of the individual.

Marcus Cicero said, “When a government becomes powerful, it is destructive, extravagant, and violent…” (Cicero, 106-64 B.C). This reigns true in today's government. A huge problem that occurs in modern government is the debt. The country is in debt due to the government. Their solution is to raise citizens’ taxes but all this does is put the population in debt. The government is ran by power-hungry individuals who only care about making the extra money. Our government has also brought the United States into a time of hate and racism. The presidential debates have shown a side of people that many have not seen. The hateful comments being made toward people of color, as well as the terrible “protests” happening across the nation are being enabled by the government.

The United States government has created entitlement programs that take the hard-earned money from the workers and gives it to people who are capable of working, but choose not to. The socialist aspect of the government is irresponsible and neglects to help the people who work for their rightly earned money. “It is of no moment to the happiness of an individual” (Johnson, 1709-1784). Taxpayers’ money is being unjustifiably taken from them and given to people who are too lazy to work. Many do not have true disabilities and are not living off the government, but living off the taxes of true worker. Many of the people on these programs are living in much better houses, have more food, and better clothes than the people who really worked for the money. If the government truly was created to protect the citizens, why are there so many unhappy people?

“A government is the most dangerous threat to a man’s rights…” (Rand, 1902-1982). The United States government has taken away individuals' rights while claiming that it's for the best to help society, even though the majority of society is against it. The government is currently attempting to take the second amendment away from the nation. The right to bear arms is right that the government cannot take away from us. We, as a nation, are allowed to protect ourselves and the banning of guns will not take care of us. The government also contradicts itself because while the government officials are allowed to make laws such as; you must wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle and you must wear a seatbelt while in a moving vehicle, but when a women wants an abortion, the government isn't allowed to take that right away from her. If a government cannot stay consistent about what rights they are allowed to invade, how are we supposed to be happy being under their jurisdiction?

The United States government is clearly corrupt, and although many people look to them for guidance with blind eyes, the government is only going to keep ruining society further. We, as a nation, do not need the government constantly making decisions for us, invading our rights as humans, and ruining the lives of so many people. The government was created to protect the nation as well as the citizens’ rights, yet all it does it ruin the hope we have of becoming stronger as a whole. The government is ruining the good of an individual and soon not only will the government be corrupt, but our nation entirely.
