Some Additional Thoughts

Further thoughts on why the rise in right-wing political groups continues.

The rise of right wing politics in the 21st century additional thoughts.

There have been complaints about right-wing political groups becoming more prominent and having well supported marches. These same complaints call for action to prevent these marches and suppress these right-wing groups. Whilst most will not have records of the exact complaints; the tone and concepts are remembered.

Most people are opposed to all forms of extremism, whether it is left, right, religious or secular; extreme views lead to distortions and actions that should not be part of our human existence. So it is logical to ask that those who call for suppression of extreme political right-wing marches to consider the question of why people are joining these groups? Instead of banning them, forcing them to go away, try understanding why people join and then deal with those issues? Only in this way can the numbers of extremists be lessened, reduced back to where they belong, just a few fanatics on the fringe of society.

People join right-wing marches for a variety of personal reasons, but one factor is the feeling of being disenfranchised, excluded. They are made to feel alien in the communities they were born into.

They are showered with abuse because they voice their feelings and fears. They are called racists and perpetrators of hate crimes, because they wish to keep their communities just as they were when they were born. In wishing this they are wishing to stop what is inevitable, they can no more stop cultural change than they can turn back an incoming tide.

Claiming they are villains, thugs, degenerates and should all be banned from existence, does not help. Ask why they feel that those who live in protected communities, are demanding they, who are at the bottom of society, should be the ones to give up their culture, their perceived right and wrong way that things should be? Ask what can be done to alleviate the feeling that they are being unfairly treated, just because they do not share some left of centre idealism?

Think rationally and it can be seen that those who wish for no change, are just as misguided as those who want to totally change human nature, by force of law. What declaration of divine law proclaims that extreme right is bad while extreme left is good? Whilst being at opposite ends of a spectrum we have to ask; is wishing to retain previously existing social mores; really so morally different ( in practice) from wishing to declare that, all ownership is theft and every single person must share every aspect of life with every other person? At first glance these seem totally different views but they have one huge similarity; given human nature, both are equally unreasonable. The causes of any popularity for either view, need dealing with; not forcibly suppressing.

Politicians tend, at least in modern times, to worry abut image and the latest headlines, they no longer are allowed to take part in a rational, serious debate. The media and party promotion apparatus do not allow any hint of doubt or any consideration of an opposing view. When did anyone hear a current politician say about an opponent, “that is a valid argument and a good idea, we must take care to include it in our policies?" This move by all political parties to professional manipulation of the media, coupled with the media being more and more driven to sensationalise and exaggerate differences between any two factions; is generating the rise of extreme views. It would sell less copies but be of greater benefit to people is they promote any common ground rather than polarise opinion.
