#DeepState: Ellen DeGeneres Just Doesn't Have the Time for It

Ellen adds, "No one has undermined Donald Trump more than Donald Trump."

Sorry, #EricTrump — #EllenDeGeneres just doesn't have time to be part of the #DeepState.

Apparently in an effort to illustrate that worries about being betrayed and undermined are a family affair, Eric Trump, President Donald Trump's middle son, suggested via Twitter that the talk show host was part of something called the Deep State. Noting that Twitter suggested he follow Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama as well, he hashtagged the tweet #DeepState, and when DeGeneres caught wind of the tweet, she was willing to break her usual rule of not discussing politics to explain that she was not a part of Deep State. In fact, she initially said that she hadn't had an idea as to what it was.

The Deep State is, according to Google's dictionary, "a body of people, typically influential members of government agencies or the military, believed to be involved in the secret manipulation or control of government policy."

DeGeneres said she later learned that the Deep State is a group of individuals who believe that they are trying to undermine President Trump, something which she said Trump did just fine on his own.

She added that she did still have some confusion about which Trump son Eric was.

"First of all, which one is Eric? Did he kill the elephant or the cheetah?" she asked, referencing questionable — and since deleted — Twitter images that Donald Trump Jr. has also posted of big game hunting expeditions that the brothers had gone on.

In typical Ellen fashion, she went on to explain that in reality, her schedule was far too busy to allow her to be a part of the Deep State.

"I've got my gay agenda meetings on Mondays, I've got on Wednesday, Beyoncé and I host an Illuminati brunch," she noted, according to Daily Mail. "Then Portia and I on the weekends are desperately trying to have a baby so I can't, I don't have time."

Then, because logic should really prevail in these sorts of situations, DeGeneres pointed out that both of Eric Trump's sisters, Ivanka and Tiffany, follow her on Twitter and that was the likely reason behind why her name popped up as someone he should follow.

I get that Eric Trump wants to be loyal to his dad and eschew anything remotely resembling a liberal viewpoint. Given Ellen DeGeneres is an unabashed liberal and incredibly popular, I could see where he would be offended, for lack of a better term, at the suggestion that he should follow Ellen. His father is a Republican, at least as far as his candidacy went, so since Eric Trump quite likely learned a credo like "loyalty at all costs" or something like that in the household he grew up in, it makes sense that he would be quite vocal in his distaste at the suggestion that he should follow Ellen.

However, it's not as though these suggestions are the work of someone operating behind the scenes at Twitter thinking, "You know what would be fun? Let's suggest on Eric Trump's profile that he follow people who represent the complete opposite of who he is and what he seems to stand for."

It's an algorithm, folks. Yes, the algorithm would have certainly been designed by a human being, but it would have been based on information already available about the given user. If Eric Trump has his personal details listed at any point on Twitter, the algorithm may have been able to pick up on it. Heck, the algorithm quite likely zeroed in on the name "Trump" and if Ivanka Trump and Tiffany Trump both follow Ellen as she says they do, it's quite possible that she was grouped in as potential people he could follow.

The point is, Eric Trump's implication that Ellen could be a part of the Deep State is more than a little ridiculous, if not paranoid altogether. Even a preteen with a basic understanding of how social media works would be able to explain to him how Obama, Hillary Clinton and Ellen DeGeneres came to be grouped together as potential suggestions for people to follow.

Enough with the conspiracy theories, Trump family. The world is tired of them, and I do believe that all of you — and President Donald Trump especially — have far more important business at hand.
