I woke up today, checked Twitter, and found that Bill Nye (The Science Guy) was trending! I immediately clicked that hashtag as fast as I could, hoping he didn't die or anything. Came to find out, he just wants us to take better care of the planet. Why? Because the Earth is on fire!

If you haven't seen the video, I will link it towards the end, but the video is a must see, and preferably not safe for the ears of children. Shocker, right? I never thought I would hear my childhood curse like that! I mean, I get Hannah Montana cursing, but BILL NYE? He has always been the best role model, and an amazing activist! Am I upset at his word choices? No. Because he told us what we needed to hear. How have we been so oblivious to what is going on around us? We aren't blind! The planet's health does not deserve to be swept underneath the carpet!

Bill Nye appeared on "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver" May 12th, and stated his take on climate change, and talked about the Green New Deal, which was introduced/proposed by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Ed Markey. The Green New Deal is essentially defined by gp.org, "will convert the old, gray economy into a new, sustainable economy that is environmentally sound, economically viable and socially responsible. It seeks to solve the climate crisis by combining quick action to get to a net-zero greenhouse gas emissions and 100 percent renewable energy by 2030 along with an “Economic Bill of Rights”–the right to single-payer healthcare, a guaranteed job at a living wage, affordable housing, and free college education." The Green New Deal is also feasible, and affordable so that is a major plus!

Per the video, we see Bill Nye with a torch, and a globe where he lights it on fire and claims, "by the end of this century, if emissions keep rising, the average temperature on Earth could go up another four to eight degrees," Nye said. "What I'm saying is the planet is on (bleep-ing) fire. There are a lot of things we could do to put it out–are any of them free? No, of course not. Nothing's free, you idiots. Grow the (bleep) up. You're not children anymore. I didn't mind explaining photosynthesis to you when you were 12. But you're adults now, and this is an actual crisis, got it? Safety glasses off, (bleep-ers)." I honestly agree with him, we are adults (talking from a standpoint where I watched him in science class my entire childhood, and now I am graduating from college).

Twitter has blown up in the last day with memes, and others stating their opinions and such. Some think Nye is ridiculous, and just wanted to be relevant again, others are showering love, and are praising him for speaking up on the issue. Bill Nye also explains more in the interview with John Oliver on the climate change issue. I personally feel it was needed, the video has spread throughout the world wide web, and brought awareness to it once more. I also felt it was educating, and everyone needs to view it.

I enjoyed the video, and I feel you would too. Check it out here.

Needless to say though, It was nice knowing he is still alive and well. Though it is definitely weird seeing him curse, I do feel it was necessary. Nobody pays attention anymore, and I feel he definitely achieved his goal of grabbing our attention! Cursing quite a bit will do that.
