Everyone Has a Little Trump In Them
Though most people don't see our billionaire president as someone they can relate to, the fact is that we all have a little bit of Donald Trump in us.
Trump may be one of the most controversial presidents in recent years - and the early stages of his presidency has been one of the rockiest in history. Part of this, I believe, is because people find it hard to relate to him and see where his mind is at.
I don't think that people are thinking of him the right way.
Though most people don't see our billionaire president as someone they can relate to, the fact is that we all have a little bit of Donald Trump in us. That "Donald" side to us is often the part that pulls us through in tough times, often by just making us feel a little better. Trump is a ball of optimism and confidence.
Don't believe me? Well, think of these traits, and tell me that you don't have a little Trump in you.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
Taking Time For Yourself
America is roiled in scandal after scandal—and one of the biggest critiques of the left is the fact that Trump has gone to 16 different golf outings while the country is up in arms. But, is that really such a bad thing?
Think about how you react during times of stress. If you're anything like me, you work hard, but you also need to unwind. Otherwise, you're going to end up having a nervous meltdown.
Many, many famous people have gotten their best ideas while relaxing and enjoying themselves. Who's to say that Trump isn't doing his own version of brainstorming while he swings his golf club? Maybe it's his yoga.
Taking time to actually show yourself some love is not a bad thing.
Blunt Honesty
One thing that took many people by surprise was how brutally honest Trump is. With him as a president, you know exactly what he wants to do and where you stand with him. Unlike other politicians, who sugarcoat their true feelings, Trump has been unabashedly open about his political beliefs—even when they aren't popular.
In order to really stand for anything, you have to have the courage to say what's on your mind. That said, it is good advice to do a little thinking before you do any big talking.
Ego
I'll agree with Democrats that Trump has a bit of an ego—but that's not a bad thing, in my opinion. His ego helped him cultivate a personal brand that launched major real estate projects, a reality television show, a line of steaks, and more. I am not saying his ego isn's a bit overdone, though he certainly has the toys that often justify that sort of thing. I am saying a little bit of ego is not a bad thing.
A Willingness To Suspend Belief
Sometimes, being able to do the right thing means that you have to suspend belief and look at things from a different light. Donald Trump was able to do that in quite a few situations so far, including his decision to run for the presidency.
No one believed that Trump would make it to office—no one! And, despite the insane odds, he proved that he could do the impossible. We've all had moments where we believed the unbelievable, haven't we? It's part of the American Dream. We do it for Star Wars.
Imagination
Say what you will, but The Donald has serious imagination. In his short presidency, he's come up with some pretty creative solutions to problems that the United States has been grappling with.
A good example of this would be his creative take on how to handle the illegal immigrant situation. Who else would have been imaginative enough to actually try to build a wall using funds from Mexico? Now in hindsight the wall idea is starting to look a little stupid, given how easy it is for the "Hombres" to dig holes under it.
Negotiation
Trump is a smooth negotiator. He did, after all, master "the Art of the Deal" in order to create his massive empire of businesses, real estate projects, and media projects. It's clear that he loves to negotiate—often to the point that it seems to be a sport for him.
Whether we like it or not, his unique and sometimes crass style of negotiation has helped him rise to the top. If you've ever negotiated a slick deal for yourself, you probably have had a similar "rush" of joy seeing how well you've done for yourself. Is it really such a bad thing to have a president who enjoys his work as a negotiator?
Assertiveness
In a world where we're constantly told to "be nice" and "give people another chance" when people have clearly shown that they are terrible to us, Trump is a breath of fresh air. When politicians refused to cooperate with Trump, or denounced him, he fired them.
And you know what? I'd have done the same. Since when is standing up for yourself so terrible? It feels good to be assertive. Sometimes the result is not the point.
Ambition
Say what you will about Trump's family already being rich, but Trump himself is one of the most ambitious people I've ever seen. He's tried his hand at everything, and there were quite a few times where he wasn't very successful.
For example, have you ever seen that weird partnership he made with Brookstone? He sold steaks. Yep. Trump steaks. That brand didn't fare so well—but he still tried.
No matter what Trump has done, he's always been ambitious about being the best at it. It was his ambition, after all, that got him to decide that he was going to go down in history as a US president. He had the ambition to run against some of the most well-heeled politicians in the country.
Oh, and it was his ambition that gave him the drive to win.
Family Focus
Nepotism has been something that Trump has been accused of, primarily because so many of his family members have had a major role in at least one of his businesses. Obviously, there may be some moral issues that could be taken there if it's looked at in the wrong way.
However, his family's roles in the businesses he owns actually are a testament to how tightly knit the Trump family really is. They move as a unit, and they're always working together—just like a family should!
Perhaps, if we started to focus on our families more, our culture would be a lot more united as a whole. Call it nepotism if you may, but there's really nothing wrong with helping a family member get a leg up if you think about it.
Flaws
Though I might sound like I believe that Trump is a perfect person, I'm very aware of the fact that he's got his flaws. His Twitter has caused major political uproars. He's had his slip-ups with locker room talk.
But really, who are we to judge? Don't we all have flaws?
At the end of the day, Trump is neither Jesus or Satan. He's a human being trying to make things work for those he cares about, just like the rest of us. And, doesn't that mean we all have a little Donald in us?
