Dear Trump, You're Embarrassing Us

Please tone it down, you're making us look bad.

Dear Trump,

You have been pretty busy since becoming the President of the United States. You have pulled out of foreign deals, tried to pass orders, and you have not passed up any chance to speak your mind. And of course, I cannot forget to mention undoing all of the work put in by the previous administration. That's quite a lot! Your words and actions have not gone unnoticed. In fact, all over the world, people are talking about what you've had to say. However, we would appreciate if you were to stop talking, because you are embarrassing us. No more misspelled or insensitive tweets, no more ridiculous claims, and please no more unwanted commentary. Here are some examples of the how you have embarrassed the United States so far.

Your New Year's Wishes

New Year's celebrations are supposed to be for spending time with family and friends, and for welcoming the coming year. New Year's should not be the time to send passive aggressive messages to your so-called enemies. You tweeted this message on December 31:

"Happy New Year to all, including to my many enemies and those who have fought me and lost so badly they just don't know what to do. Love!"

Now Donald, was this really necessary? Was New Year's Eve the best possible time to call out the people who disagree with you? The holiday season should be a time of coming together, not separation. This tweet embarrassed the nation and put a damper on our celebrations.

You Called One of the Most Well-Regarded Actresses Overrated

Meryl Streep made a powerful speech after winning the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes in January, which portrayed you in a bad light. Celebrities deal with hate all the time, but you decided you needed to retaliate instead of responding with grace. Streep attacked you for mocking a disabled reporter (also very embarrassing) and said that your disrespect invites others to do the same. You could have responded tactfully, or just said nothing. But instead, you posted this once again on your Twitter account.

“Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn’t know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes. She is a Hillary flunky who lost big. For the 100th time, I never “mocked” a disabled reporter (would never do that) but simply showed him “groveling” when he totally changed a 16 year old story that he had written in order to make me look bad. Just more very dishonest media!”

This woman had just received an extremely prestigious award for her acting abilities. She is one of the most accomplished actresses of her time and one of the most popular, and you chose to insult her over social media. That was not very mature of you.

Attempting to Pass an Immigration Ban

In your attempt to pass an Immigration Ban targeting predominantly Muslim countries, you made us all look bad. This caused protests all over the country, and it ultimately was not passed because it was unconstitutional. What were you thinking? The rest of the world saw a country raging over the reckless actions of their unpopular leader. I certainly do not want to be viewed that way, or for our to be viewed as an unaccepting place for immigrants.

Claiming That You Would Date Your Daughter

I don't even know what to say about this one. It's just creepy and bizarre. There are other ways to praise Ivanka that wouldn't make you sound disgusting. I'm not so sure how she felt about this one.

“I’ve said if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.”

When you said this, the world collectively cringed.

Pulling Out of the Paris Climate Agreement

Apparently, you thought the 194 other countries that are involved in the Paris Agreement don't know what they're doing. By pulling out of this agreement, you made us look like inconsiderate jerks to the rest of the world. The agreement is a pact to come together and limit carbon emissions as a whole. You made us seem like we think we're above everyone else because we don't need to limit our emissions. The fact is, now everyone will blame us for perpetuating global warming. Good job, Donald.

There are so many more embarrassing acts that I could list. The things you do and say have real consequences. The way other countries view the US is important in maintaining peace. If you're not careful, you're likely to start another world war. You make a mockery out of our nation. You have done countless things that make us look bad, so please be aware of the fact that you're embarrassing us.
